Tara Kelly, the Dutchess Land Conservancy’s Director of Development, left the city for the Hudson Valley with her family in 2002, and has never looked back. Through her work at the DLC she’s gotten to know the back roads and the hard-working farmers who produce the best meat, cheese, produce, and flowers. Every May the DLC holds a Spring Barn Dinner Dance in a local barn, and in October they hold their Annual Fall Country Lunch, two must-attend events on the Millbrook social calendar. As a member of the Millbrook Hunt Tara gets to commune with nature from horseback, as an avid gardener she takes regular trips to the Wethersfield estate for inspiration, and on the weekends she roams the countryside with her dogs.

"Dover Stone Church; a magical rock formation complete with rushing stream, just a stone’s throw from Route 22. The DLC, working with multiple partners, helped to create the Stone Church Preserve."

"Chaseholm Farm Creamery is off the beaten track just outside of Pine Plains. This is a family-affair: Rory Chase makes beautiful artisanal cheeses with milk from his sister’s cows."

"Stylish, clean, and aromatic, the distillery itself is a work of art, and the bourbon is suitably expensive and worth every penny."

"The owner/farmer Mark Burdick sells only locally sourced products but he’ll have all the things we are missing like bread for our cheese, and really fresh salad greens, and probably rhubarb and apples if we want to make a crisp."
