Michael Bruno is an entrepreneur that has incorporated his lifelong passion for great design and preservation into all aspects of his life. He began his professional career in residential real estate when he was a teenager. Bruno followed this with a move to the consumer internet business, where he created his first online venture, 1stdibs.com which launched in the early 2000s.
Tastemakers Guide is Bruno’s latest online venture which he says he plans to work on for the rest of his life because it is so much fun. “During the time I was traveling the world to open up markets for 1stdibs, (now in 24 countries), I started rounding up shortlists from all of my stylish friends in design so I could experience the places I was visiting to the fullest.” Through Tastemakers Guide, Bruno is gathering and sharing the shortlist of his favorite Tastemakers so we can all support their favorite places in art, design and hospitality.

I am sure there is always much more that I can do. However, I am involved in land conservation and invested in farmland to have them be organic and the protection of forests in New York state to have them beforever wild.
What is one company you think has handled the pandemic particularly well?
Amazon of course on a worldwide basis, and I am also very proud of my team at Valley Rock. We have a large outdoor restaurant and the team has kept us operating throughout this past year, rain or shine. Valley Rock has earned the loyal support of the community at large and we have so many people that return again and again, even in the dead of winter when the temperature is at 20 degrees. Fortunately, at Valley Rock there is an abundance of heat lamps and fire pits more than enough to keep everybody warm.
What have the silver-linings been during this pandemic?
Having more time to think!

I like to think of myself as being 75% vegan.

What sports do you play?
I was a competitive swimmer most of my life. Over the last few years, I have added in rigorous hiking and weight training to stay fit. For pure pleasure, I love to ski and kayak.
