David Mann, founder and head of New York’s MR Architecture and Décor, (a firm known for straddling the line between both disciplines, and a perennial fixture on AD’s top 100), wanted to use the retrospective as an opportunity for improvement. He wanted his team to assess the work they had done, to discover just what it was they were proud of, and to decide how they could bring these elements to bear on their projects in the future. This deliberate, conscientious thinking, coupled with a certain modesty and collaborative spirit, are exactly what have distinguished MR’s projects to date. These are the qualities that have delivered the firm consistently intelligent, beautiful, and remarkable results, and they are the influence of the firm’s chief, David Mann.
David’s shortlist for Upstate NY
What are you up to these days?
We are currently working on a ground up oceanfront house in the Hamptons, the interior design of the residential units at the 111 Murray Street tower in Tribeca, the gut renovation of a turn of the century townhouse in Brooklyn, the decoration of apartments in Gramercy Park and Hudson Yards, a donor wall for The Center in Greenwich Village, and store design for a new global retail brand.
“Before the shops open, I like to drive any of my guests who are unfamiliar with the area around, to look at some of my favorite Hudson Valley homes.”
