A legendary old mansion hotel on St Charles with epic front porch cocktails and bites. Located in uptown New Orleans, The Columns is an excellent alternative to staying in the French Quarter.
Nestled amongst the grandiose oak trees and homes of St. Charles Avenue sits the iconic Columns Hotel that was originally built as a private residence in 1883. It’s a great place to stay or simply play. I recommend indulging yourself with all that the stunning interior has to offer, including the dreamy wallpaper and impressive bar, then sit on the covered porch with a refreshing Mint Julep and watch the streetcars roll by.
The Columns is no ordinary hotel. Built in 1893 as a private residence, it was converted into a boarding house during World War I. In 1953, a local family turned it into a hotel and the bar on the porch became a star. In 2019, it was sold to Jayson Seidman and his family. Now it’s time for the next chapter of this beloved setting. As locals, we love this hotel as much as you do, and we’re excited to keep it a family property with the attention and respect it deserves.
