Tastemakers share with you their short list of
places to go in Upstate New York

We asked over 20 tastemakers we know and trust in the design, art and hospitality worlds to tell us where they go when they are in Upstate New York. Combined, they gave us over 250 places worthy of your time; this book represents a small selection of them. It blew my mind when I saw how quickly the area is transforming into what feels like the European countryside. There are small towns a short, beautiful drive apart, with cafes, shops, farms and markets, and cool places to stay that have a restaurant on-site serving haute cuisine made from locally-sourced farms and purveyors.

Having spent over ten years traveling through Europe and the U.S. to bring together the world’s best antiques and 20th-century-design dealers for 1stdibs, I have seen a lot of special places and I have no doubt that Upstate New York is well on its way to becoming one of America’s most popular destinations for people who appreciate good food, design and the great outdoors.

Because I am so excited about what is happening, we are launching the Tastemakers Guide to help people find, enjoy and support the places that are putting Upstate New York back on the map. I believe in it so much that I am opening Valley Rock Inn & Mountain Club in the Lower Hudson Valley this fall.

I hope you will join us in the exciting times ahead and plan many visits to the over 250 places you will find on our website.
